Book of Celebration

We’re aware that some people couldn’t make it to the memorial service in Liverpool. We set up this online book of celebration to give anyone a chance to share their memories of Colin and his music, along with any messages for the family.

We have now closed the Book of Celebration to new entries but all previous entries remain below to view.

589 entries.

It’s really hard to put my feelings into just a couple of words… I’ve been a fan of your music since 1987 and your outstanding voice as well as the words of your songs accompanied me through all these years, cheering me up, making me cry, and making me smile. When I finally met you end of last year I got to know such an intelligent, warm-hearted, and passionate person. Thank you for this wonderful evening in Munich and thank you for all the great moments your music brought into my life. You’ll always be in my memory!

Thank you Colin, thank you Black, for great songs. My childhood was marked with songs "Wonderful life" and "Everything is coming up roses". I am glad because of that. Thank you for everything. I hope your family will be strong enought to overcome these difficult days. Rest in peace.

Colin, I never met you but saw you once live in Bristol, one of those intimate gigs which showcased the beauty of your voice and your songs. I'm trying so hard to have happy thoughts today, to celebrate what you gave us all over the years, but right now there are just tears because you're not with us anymore. I can't be there tonight, but I'm there with all your family, friends and fans in my heart. Thank you for everything. Cheers

Dear Colin
I remember when I first 'found' you in my local record shop on a cold, breezy Saturday morning. I bought you song 'Wonderful life' without even listening to it. I took it home and my life changed. The following weekend I wrote to you - and a week later you wrote back.
I was thrilled! Buying that record on impulse was one of the best choices I ever made.
I even joked to my friends that you were my penpal - you called me your number one fan!
Then you became an 'agony aunt' to other teenagers who were writing to you.
Such was your selflessness.
A true gentleman and a legend has died and the world is a sadder place. However I shall listen to your cd tonight and remind myself why your music came into my life.
