The Bassline is a music venue in Johannesburg. It is named in the title of the live album from 2002 that is our album of the month for November 2013.
The Bassline
At the time of the 2001 recording of our album of the month, the venue was in the bohemian Melville area of Johannesburg. It was established in 1994 and closed in 2003 – but then re-opened in Newtown in 2004 with a 1000 capacity venue and an intimate 150 smaller space.
The original venue in Melville became the ‘ultimate venue’ to experience South Africa’s finest jazz and Afro Beat.
