It’s not often I get to hear my stuff and have it remind me so vividly of people; a place. Sunday September 23rd 2001 finds me onstage, at the Bassline, in Melville, Johannesburg enjoying the third of three memorable nights in a short tour.
This place is hot! The band are hot! The people are hot – much beer is consumed. I leave the stage with a smile on my face. Several months later (and much other stuff in-between) here is a record of that night as it was (schwarz and all anybody?) and will always be for me. I cannot thank those involved in making it happen enough – but I shall try!
Thanks to Brad and Paige for creating something unique where there was nothing and sticking with it always for the right reason.
Benjy for being a dynamo of possibility where so many are discouraged.
Steve for calmly staying the course when others would have jumped
Faye for holding it all together from beginning to end and always being where she needed to be.
We’ll look at the lineup of the band and the iconic Bassline venue in a few articles over the next few weeks.
