Book of Celebration

We’re aware that some people couldn’t make it to the memorial service in Liverpool. We set up this online book of celebration to give anyone a chance to share their memories of Colin and his music, along with any messages for the family.

We have now closed the Book of Celebration to new entries but all previous entries remain below to view.

589 entries.

I only saw Colin once with my best mate a couple of years ago in Glasgow and thought he had such an incredible voice. It`s far too soon for Colin to be gone. Also too sad for words to do justice to.

It's painful news. With Colin part of my youth is gone.
I remember standing in Sopron (Hungary) with "Wonderful Life" blasting through an open window filling the street with music on a lazy summer afternoon. Our teacher paused, turned to her colleague pointing to the window: "Can you hear it? This is my favorite song." That showed me as a kid how a great song can break barriers between generations, hell, take over a whole country seeping into its consciousness.
I came a long way since then but over the years I was relistening "Comedy" a lot. It remained one of my favorite, underappreciated pop records of that era, reminding me that it wasn't just a Wonderful Life.

Godspeed my friend and thank you for everything!

The stirring news about Colin’s passing was a shock…the only relief his amazing music. The past weeks I’ve been listening almost entirely to Colin’s music and became hooked on again. What a great artist! So much talent, diversity, melancholy, so many emotions.
“Swingtime”, “Whishing You Were Here” from “Are We Having Fun Yet”-album (buy it in case you don’t call it your own), “Walk On Frozen Water” (playing right now),“Tomorrow Is Another Night”, “California” from the incredible “Water On Stone”, “Who You Are”, “Ashes Of Angels” or the outstanding “Parade” from “Blind Faith”…, what a great music!
Very sad that I hadn’t the opportunity to meet him personally or witness one of his live concerts…but his music will leave on and always be part of my life.
Thank you Colin for all the amazing songs! Rest in peace.
Condolences to the family, friends and all the other fans.

A legacy of wonderful, poignant, melancholic music that will long live on in the hearts and minds of those lucky enough to have been touched by his words, voice and character. Just like Nick Drake and John Martyn before him. A sad loss, but what a pleasure it has been to journey with him through such a delightful body of music. Bless you, Colin.
