Announcement – UPDATED 24/1/16

UPDATE as of 24/1/16

Following Colin’s scan on Friday, the news is not encouraging. His condition has seriously deteriorated.

We acknowledge the grief among all those who love him and are deeply grateful for the thousands of messages of love and support however there will be no more news updates while his family remain at his bedside.

As before, we request that they are given space to deal with this most difficult of situations.

UPDATE as of 20/1/16

We promised to keep you updated with news about Colin. Until yesterday we had very little firm information other than that he was in a coma following a road traffic accident on the morning of 10th, not far from Cork airport, and that he was in a critical condition.
However scans have revealed that the injuries to his brain are worse than we feared and that he has only a slim chance of pulling through. He is in a stable condition, which is being managed by the amazing staff of the Intensive Treatment Unit, with his family by his side. More scans are scheduled for Friday morning, however it is clear that if we are going to see an improvement, we will need a miracle.

Colin’s wife Camilla has asked that anyone who wants to, to send collective healing and positive energy to Colin particularly 12:00 and 14:00 GMT today, Wednesday 20th in the hope of the miracle we need. If you miss this time, no matter – your thoughts are still very welcome.

We understand that you may wish to send some token of your love, however, the hospital is unable to accept flowers or gifts. Please leave any messages here or send more private thoughts via email to [email protected]
We will pass them on to Colin and the family as soon as it’s appropriate.

We would ask that the family are given space to deal with these difficult times in private.

UPDATE as of 14/1/16:

Colin remains in a critical condition in hospital in Ireland. He has suffered a serious head injury and has been placed in an induced coma to allow him the best possible chance of recovery. He is likely to remain like this for several days but we will post an update as soon as there is any significant change in his condition. He is receiving the best possible care from the Intensive care unit team.

Thank you to everyone who has posted, messaged, emailed and texted. Please keep doing it as his family are deeply moved and helped by your support and love. Please feel free to share this message and pass on to anyone not on social media.

We’re very sorry to have to tell you that Colin has been involved in a serious car accident and is currently in a stable but critical condition in hospital.

He is surrounded by warmth, love and the best possible care. We will keep you updated as soon as we have any significant news but in the meantime would ask you to respect his and his family’s privacy.

We know that he and the family will appreciate your thoughts and positive hopes for his full recovery so please post any messages of support in the comments section here and we will pass them on.

Very sad and shocked to here of Colin and the accident.
My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.
A speedy recovery to the main man with the voice of an angel!

Dear Colin,
Thirteen years ago I wrote to you sharing how much of an impact your music has had on me. I told you your music was part of the soundtrack of my life. You were very kind to reply, and you told me that music is, indeed, very important and that “if you cannot play it, (you) must find it.”

When I heard of your accident it shook me as if it had happened to a friend because, I realize, it has happened to a friend. We might have never met, but such is the power of music.

Colin, out there there is a lot of music for you to find and to bring to us. You need to get well and go on and a lot of people are here rooting for you and your loved ones.

Take care. I’m looking forward to finally seeing you play life.

All the best,

Dear Colin and Family
Really saddened by this awful news. Wish you a speedy recovery and hope your loved ones can stay strong. We’re all right with you.
All the best.

So sorry to hear,
I went to see Colin Vearncombe in Manchester and had the pleasure meeting him very briefly after a performance.
I enjoyed it tremendously and I was very impressed with his performance and how he handled a broken microphone.
The grace and ease in which he handled the stress and disappointment of an expensive microphone breaking were very inspiring. The music, voice and the skills as a performer are very high and I found him to be a gifted performer.
However as a human being he impressed me most. I have not seen many people on a stage that touched me like that.
If there is any justice in the world and you get back what you put out in the universe a speedy recovery is well deserved.
The lyrics of sweetest smile run through my head every now and then and although it’s sad song it never fails to make me happy. I have a battery somewhere in my body that needs to be charged with beauty like that. Colin Vearncombe provides that, much needed, charge on many occasion and will continue to do so in the future. Thank you for that.

So sorry to hear of your accident. Wishing you a speedy recovery & best thoughts & prayers for you and your family from Bob White & family, Perth Australia

I just woke to the news and this is troubling indeed. My wife and I have always had lots of room for his music in our lives over the last 20 years. We’ve got plenty of room for Colin in our hearts to wish for his recovery so that he can rejoin his family where he belongs for a long time coming.

I have seen Colin in concert 3 times, I was fortunate to talk to him briefly in the Reception at Cambridge Corn Exchange many years ago, I was honoured to have that brief conversation with him, a very compassionate and approachable person. I believe him to be the best performer I have ever seen in concert and I have seen some of the all time greats. I would like to send Colin and all members of his family and closest friends my very best wishes for a full recovery.

Best wishes from Robert Black

Please get well and start to live again the same “wonderful life”! All the best from me to u and ur beloved ones. Wish I could be able to come see u when u would sing in my country (Romania). Love u.

Be strong! You are not alone, Colin! There are millions of fans praying for you right in this moment. Our collectiv Prayers will reach the sky and then the angels will help you. They don’t need you in Heaven like we need you here on Earth. Hope, Haith & Love. From Romania, Vasi.

Love you and your great music, Colin!
I can’t wait for you to get well and be back.
Love, Vio, Bucharest, Romania

We’re so sorry to hear about this. It seems only days ago since we were chatting at Selby Town Hall. We wish you the best of recoveries and pray for both you and your family / friends in this hour of need.

OMG..Just heard this terrible news…Nothing in the media here in Ireland…?….Hope….. and will pray to my God that all will be well and that Colin makes a good, speedy and complete recovery and goes on to live a long , Happy and Musical WONDERFUL LIFE…)))

Desde Barcelona, mi esposa y yo pensamos en tí continuamente y deseamos de corazón que te repongas lo más pronto posible porque queremos venir a Inglaterra a verte actuar.

Sad… So sad… Just dreaming to come to England this year and listen to you live, once again. Come on my dear man. Stand up… Please…

Colin, family and friends – There’s a lot of heartfelt support here from people whose lives have been genuinely touched by Colin’s music. It has been the soundtrack to many of our lives for decades – it’s certainly been a constant in mine. For all that time I’ve taken so much from the music that now at a time like this, I feel I ought to reciprocate. But alas all we can do is offer support and let you know we care. So hang in there guys – we’re thinking of you, wishing Colin a speedy recovery, and you all a rapid return to normality.

Wishing you a full and speedy recovery, Colin. I played your first album at the weekend – I’d forgotten how fantastic it is. Thoughts for you and your family.

I remember seeing Black in the late 80s in Valencia. It was a wonderful show and those first albums of Colin were the soundtrack of my teens. Please, get better, Colin! A hug for you and your family.

Tanto mi marido como yo te mandamos toda nuestra fuerza y cariño. Formas parte de nuestra vida con tu música. Mucho ánimo y esperanza para ti y tu familia. Te esperamos pronto.

Just hold on… Hold on the notes which brings all of us together as a united heart. And this heart now beats wishing you get well soon. I know soon we’ll hear the good news. And you’ll share with us a snapshot of yours with your boys, smiling tired but hopefully. We are hold on that hope, and you just hold on…

We need you here because you create something so valuable to many, your beautiful music.
All the best to you and your family.

Here’s to a speedy recovery mate, you’ve got to tough this one out. Hope to see you again after the fantastic gig with Liz Lawrence at MK. All the very best Colin. Bob.

Colin, you’ve been giving us so much joy each and every day of our lives that now, in the little way I can, I would like to send my love and possitivity to you and your family. Stay strong, God will do the rest. We’re all praying for your soon recovery. Hope we could accompany you in the same way you’re with us in our ups and downs with your music but be sure we’re here for you. All the best and see you soon! x

I am so gutted to hear the news, have been a massive fan from the start, CV’s live performance of Water on Snow at morecambe was one off the most haunting things i have ever heard, its in the top three of my most precious musical memories, god speed for full recovery, will put you in my prayers tonight ‘om ma ni pa me hung’, gonna turn up the volume and immerse myself now in the talent of the man i regard as the greatest song writer i have ever come across, lots of love Russ

Wishing you a speedy recovery, Colin. We need that velvet voice back soon and there are pints of Guinness lined up in bars across the world awaiting your return. Much love x

My thoughts and hopes are with you and your family , and thanks to the hospital staff on there efforts to make you better. We can’t lose another genius this week , here’s to a speedy recovery more gigs and more songs

Oh wowza…..please get well soon. I’m working on the basis that even musical space is finite and works on some kind of “good stuff will force bad stuff to get squirted into the void” so we need more music from real artists like you to help flush out the dross that is being pedalled. I hope you’re are thinking of new material whilst you take a rest. Come back soon

C’mon big fella, We’re not ready yet to only have to listen to your amazing voice on cd. So far you’ve given us all a Wonderful Life and these are just Stormy Waters, for tonight be a Sleeper but tomorrow ….be Alive. Stay strong Colin, pull through and get back out here soon where you belong. Sending you masses of love, hugs, hopes, prayers and the Sweetest of Smiles. Russ, Deb & The Boys xx

To the most gracious and humble man I’ve met in this industry in a long time….

Nothing spiritual, nothing profound… Just get better soon because we all still need you, your songs and your voice in our lives.

Get well soon mate… Ty x

OMW I just heard this very sad news over the radio station in South Africa. Our thoughts and prays reach out to you and your loved ones and here’s to a speed recovery. It’s now time to re release your song “Feel like change”

Terrible news in a terrible week for culture in UK. Best wishes for him and his family. I hope the great moments he has given us through his music can now get back to him to help for a full recovery.

Dear Colin, I’m just looking at a photo of you, me and my husband that was taken only a few weeks ago when we had the honour of meeting you at your gig in Mainz. It was a pleasure to find out that your personality is as beautiful as your music and your voice. It’s not only your talent and your exceptional voice that make life a bit more wonderful, we also need good people like you in this world, so please don’t forget what you promised in your Christmas wishes from Barcelona: “I’ll see you next year and we will have some fun together” – I rely on you to make it happen! All the best wishes from Germany for you and your loved ones, Miriam & Pat xxx

Ireland has taken you to it’s bosom and will release you back fixed and functional in due course.

I really hope that you get well soon, we’ll be waiting for you as always. Your music meets our soul’s needs. Lots of love.

I’ve been a fan for many, many years, buying Colin’s music yet lurking in the shadows. I have never posted nor commented until now: Colin’s music always brings a wistful smile to my face and very often tears. His lyrics and music are heart felt, and affect me very deeply. I wish him the speediest of recoveries and hope that his family are coping as well as they can. They are all in my thoughts. Louise in Canada

Dear Colin, you were such an integral part of our blossoming relationship, united by a mutual love of your voice and music. We saw you at Leicester Poly in 1989: Back then, it was not a great venue by any means but the concert was pure magic and we cherish the memory of seeing you on stage. We sincerely hope that we will see you again one day soon but in the meantime, here’s wishing you well and sending all our positive strength, vibes and love!

So sad to hear this news. Have been a fan of Colin’s since 1987 and had the privilege of chatting to him after he and Calum performed together in Airdrie last April……..such a down to earth, charming and wonderful man. Colin was suffering with a touch of laryngitis on the night but he still gave it 100% regardless and treated his audience to an awesome performance. His voice sounded on top form as ever.
Come on Colin, praying for a speedy and full recovery for you. My thoughts are constantly with you and your loved ones during this difficult time. Hoping to hear some positive news soon.

Hiya Colin, just checking in on my old school mate and guitar sparring partner. Very upset to hear you are having an exceptionally bad time. Hang in there pal, we’re all thinking about you.

Yes, it’s a wonderful life, and one of the reasons for it is that you’re here. Keep fighting, Colin. No doubt you’ll succeed. You’re strong like your songs, They stay with us through the years, and so will you. All my best wishes and love to you and your family.

God bless you COLIN and yours. A Tons of force.

“Dear God, allow the good Spirits who accompany me to help me when I am in difficulty and uphold me when I falter. Lord, may they inspire me with faith, hope and charity; may they be a point of support, an inspiration and a testimony of Your mercy. In short, may I always encounter in them the strength that I lack for the tests of life, the strength to resist all evil suggestions, the faith that saves and the love that consoles.

(Allan Kardec).

Not good! So sad about this…and just when you have made the best album of your carreer!
Be strong my friend and love to you.

Colin, you are a treasure as a person, friend and musician, may you have all the strength needed to get through this terrible time.

My thoughts, heart and soul go in all my prayers for your recovery. I pray for strength and faith for your loved ones in this so difficult moment.
You are a wonderful person who has filled and touched so many with your music and passion in each of your songs.
Colin you have the love and prayers of all the people who have followed you through all these years.
May God guide you back to us.

There is nothing I can say that can make this easier, but I really hope that Colin can fight and pull through this. He has written some beautiful songs and they have at the very least impacted on some of our lives… something to be proud of.. I’m a bit of a rocker by nature, but The Sweetest Smile is one of my favourite songs from the 1980s… my thoughts are with you!

Dear Vearncombes,

as written before in my email, I wish you all the best in this difficult time, still thinking of Colin and you, the family.
No one knows why this nightmare had to happen but I hope and pray that Colin will get better and recover soon.

My best wishes, get well soon.

Colin, your music provided me with so many positive feelings and emotions, I hope I can give back some of this right now! My thoughts are with you, I hope you have the strength to pull through!!!

The news of Colin’s accident was on BBC teletext the other day and I can’t help but think that Colin would find this so ironic that it takes something like this to get him back in the mainstream press, even if only for a day. When I met Colin in 2005 and told him that I thought that he has the most beautiful voice in music today he seemed taken aback and was very humble about it all, but, as we know, this is what Colin is like as a man. One of the most beautiful and divine talents who has ever graced the wonderful world of music. My continued thoughts and prayers are with his family who I know are so very close to Colin’s heart. xx

Say to him that I have been happy seeing him singing in direct. That thanks for his talent, for his effort, for his generosity and naturalness. That we love him. That we stick still to the miracle. Thanks for the information.

I met Colin at The Cluny, in Newcastle. In 1984, I broke my neck and had serious head-injuries and numerous other problems. I came out of a coma, to the music of Robert Palmer. Not a word was a Black and Bob collaboration. Can you play something that means A LOT, to Colin? Every kinda people was/is one of my #1 tunes and it brought me out of a coma and my parents played me other songs, by Al Jolson, Amen Corner, Sting, Jeff Beck, Santana and had my parents, recorded on a cassette tape. I, eventually, woke up….or as the Robert Palmer song says, I woke up laughing!!!
Colin, when you DO wake up, just take things one day at a time. Your head and our brain have had a BIG trauma. You should try to do NOTHING, for some time. Give yourself some healing time.
God bless you!!

Dear Colin, “Wonderful Life” really is one of my favourite songs. I was shocked to read about the accident and although the messages are not very positive, I hope for a miracle ant that things will take a real positive turn for you. Thinking of you and your family!

Still praying and hoping for the best.
Much love from Hamburg, Germany.
Colin, make it come true and get well!!!

Sending all my thoughts and positivity to Colin and his family, you’ve been in my thoughts every day since the news. Hoping for a miracle, miracles do happen, stay with us Colin. Lots of love x

De France, je vous envoie tout mon soutien avec l’espoir d’un rétablissement rapide. Bon courage à vous et à votre famille. J’espère que tout va aller bien et que votre état s’améliore. On compte sur vous pour vous battre.

Terrible news.

Colin, I hope you/we get the miracle that you need.

You have been a big part of the soundtrack to my life.

My thoughts are with you and your family at this very difficult time.

Dear Camilla, our good wishes, all positive energies with Colin, you and your boys; we believe he’ll find his way back to home, to you and your boys… and all of you will leave these dark days behind….Our hearts with you…

Been following each day hoping for good news.If a miracle is needed bring it on.
Prayers, love and positive thoughts to Colin and his family from another Merseysider “born in 1962”.

I am a fan of your music since the very first album and have been grateful to experience your concert in cologne few years ago.
I´m very sad about the news and hope only the best for your recovery and lot of strength for your family.
My thoughts are with you, Colin.

This Man Deserves a Miracle. He has healed so many broken souls, including mine, with his music, lyrics, and poems. He has given so many people, worldwide, the inspiration to carry on. I am praying for you Colin, like I have never prayed before. You must fight hard to live. Find that will inside yourself, so you can pull through and be healed completely. You must never forget how much your wife and family need you, don’t leave them. I am praying for your family at this most difficult time. We, your fans need you too Colin. We need you to be making your beautiful music for us again. Fight Colin, Fight! Come back to us. We all need you. Sending you and your family all our Love, Hope, and Strength. We need this miracle to happen. You are in our thoughts, all the way over here, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Love to all, Shelley.

Hey Colin and family. I just read the news, and am heartbroken at the news. Colin has been a key part of my teen and adult life, and I cannot imagine life without him in it. Colin, like Bowie, has given us so many great moments….. I recall hearing Hey Presto! for the first time, before Wonderful Life came out, and I was hooked. It was 1983, and I wrote his record company WEA to gush at his greatness….. Colin himself wrote me back….. what a class act.

I just looked, and I have 172 songs on my hard drive of Colin’s music…. and I have all of his vinyl. I will be playing his music all day as I work in my studio, and be sending positive thoughts. We love you Colin. Cheers, Charley. XOXO

Very shocked to hear the terrible news. I pray for a miracle and hope you will pull through. A real gent and true artist. Stay strong Camilla and family Love Daniel

I just read today’s update and the news are difficult to take. I am hoping for that miracle with all my might: for you, Colin, for your loved ones, and for all of us.

Please, do stay.

Colin, what a shock ! I’m a fan from the eighties, and this is hard to read… I hope you will recover, although it seems very hard to recover. All the family: keep on going strong, I will pray for Colin and you!

Many regards and best wishes, Roy (from the Netherlands)

I was in shock when I received the bad news about Colin. I really hope that he pulls through. I really enjoy listening to his soothing voice. In fact, I just ordered one of his new albums before I got the bad news. I’m a huge fan of his since his first big hit “Wonderful Life” quite a few years ago.

Sending Colin and his family prayers and positive vibes. Thanks for all you’ve given, may there be many more beautiful songs x

My thoughts truly go out to Colin and his family, I remember his big hit coming out when I was very young. I very much hope this comment will encourage his family and help Colin pull through. Please allow me to tell you about someone I know who is known as ” the miracle man, ” his name is Morris Goodman, many years ago he was in a serious plane crash, his 1st and 2nd cervical vertebrae were crushed, his diaphram and wind pipe were damaged, he was clinically dead for about 10 minutes, he was paralysed from the neck down, at least he was told he was by all the doctors, yet 8 months later he walked out of the hospital, defying all doctors prognosis, when asked much later how he recovered he said this, ” the doctors, of course, said I would be a vegetable for the rest of my life, that was the picture they saw of me, but it didn’t matter what they thought, the main thing was what I thought, I pictured myself a normal person again, walking out of the hospital, “, he went on to say if he could sum up what he went through it would be in 6 words, ” man becomes what he thinks about, ” I truly hope this is of some help, blessings to you all.

I recently moved from England to Ireland as Colin has done before me. I have four of his albums in my record collection. I hope he pulls through. My thoughts are with his family.

Dear Colin
You are truly in my thoughts, I hope that the miracle arrives.
I’ve never met you, only seen you perform once. But your albums and wonderful songs have been a core soundtrack to my life since my teens, still copies sit in my car an on my phone, when others come and go.

You’re soundtrack has enhanced the happy times and mirrored my melancholy in not so good times.

I hope that your spirit and inner strength brings you back to your family and when possible to those who love your voice and songs.

Sending every wish for strength and power.

Colin, my thoughts are with you and your family.

I was lucky enough to see you at The Stables near Milton Keynes some years ago. Although the audience was small you delivered a memorable and intimate set for us.

Man hugs Colin.

From the beginning of first album I have been touched by Collins music and still touched by all he has done. From across this vast ocean that separates us all, my best wishes and all positive energies to Collins recovery and for his wife and their families. And as well, the same to the fan family around the the world. Stay strong and with love we are all there with you Collin.

We only found out about the accident today and listened to Wonderful Life on the radio at lunchtime. A wonderful song and a lovely voice. We wish you luck. X

So sorry to hear this tragic news.

Wonderful Life, without doubt one of the best songs of the 1980’s, always on my playlist……

Liverpool is thinking of you Colin……

Thinking of you Colin and your family. You don’t know me but you are a very important part of my life, my late teenage years in Liverpool were wonderful thanks to your music and the other great music in Liverpool at that time. The International Garden Festival in the summer of 1984 is embedded in my memory bank, treading grapes to produce ‘Chateau de Mersey’, getting a picture with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, walking through the stunning landscaped gardens of the world, all in Otterspool! But the highlight of the festival was your show under the big top. Every song a classic, at that time you were still almost unknown outside Liverpool, ‘our’ golden secret! Thankfully the show was on the local radio and I still play this regularly now, when I want to remember being 18 again! From afar I am trying to be positive for you and for your family. Please come back. Love John

Sending my thoughts and prayers to Colin and his family, from across the pond – Maryland, USA. May you all be surrounded with peace, love, and strength.

Sending love and healing thoughts to you and your family. I was so shocked to read about your accident, you have been my hope and inspiration through hard times in the past and I still find comfort and joy in your songs and music today. Get well Colin, wake up and meet that grandchild when it comes along!! I have just been blessed with a second grandchild in my life, believe me they are worth fighting through the fog for.

I saw the news about Colins accident a few days ago. Just seen the latest update (20th Jan) and I’m sad to see that his injuries are worse than thought. Hope he can pull through and make a good recovery. Head injuries are the worst – so, best wishes to him and his family and I will be hoping said miracle happens.

Dear Colin,
I wish you a quick recovery. I`m your fan since “Wonderful Life”. Thank you for the concert in Mainz.

Dear Family Vearncombe,
I wish you much strength for this hard time.

I’m really praying like i rarely did in my life, i’m praying for a friend i never met but that was constantly there with his songs as the soundtrack of my life, please God, we need him to sing again….

You are all in my thoughts especially Colin, your music has given me so much joy. I am hoping that you have the strength Colin to fight this cruel twist of fate.

you saw me through my 20’s…here’s hoping you’ll come back and see me through my 50’s!!…thinking of you Colin and hoping to see and hear you back in Ireland real soon…all our prayers..x

I am absolutely gutted at the moment at this news but I am hopeful. Colins music has been a part of my life for many years and I was lucky enough to see him perform in London in 2001. Best wishes from all his fans in NZ.

Recuperate pronto. Un saludo desde Madrid.

You were a big part of the soundtrack to my late teens. Sending you positive thoughts to you and your family at this time and willing you a speedy recovery.

Was just thinking of our time spent working together the other day, then this terrible news. Stay strong Colin, fight, hang in there. Thinking of you and your family.

Praying for you Colin. Be strong and heal in the knowledge of how much the love in your music has helped millions of us at different times in our lives.

Thinking of Colin and family at this time. Your profound music and words helped me through some lonely and solitary moments. Ever grateful, Frankie.

What a tragedy as Colin launched the next phase of his amazing career with Blind Faith. Hard to believe the world can change things in such a drastic way. Get well, my hero. Thoughts go to your family, it is awful for them.

Wonderful Life was the first album I got. I was 12. It holds a special place in my memories, and I still spin my CD copy now and then, and makes me feel great again.

My best wishes for him and his family.

Positive thoughts coming your way. Remember you from my teens in the eighties !! What a great song writer. Keep fighting Colin !!!

Estem plorant, sí i no volem que fugis perque com bé has dit tantes vegades “Viure es tan meravellós” i t´estem esperant.

Sending good wishes and hopes for a successful and speedy recovery from across the pond. Thanks for the many years of great music from Human Features to Blind Faith. Listening to them all now and thinking positive thoughts for you and yours.

Thoughts are with you and your family
many happy memories and concerts over the years
hopefully many more
Power of positive thoughts

Truely the saddest of news. The year is still quite young and already we have lost so many amazingly talented people. I would like to think that they could make do with Bowie rocking out “up there” and spare Colin to keep us entertained for a while longer. I’ve been touched and blessed by his music since the very start (Mum bought me his very 1st album as it had “Oh, Stephen” on it and she thought it would make a nice gift. Little did she know I would be such a fan all these years later! I, as I’m sure many of us all, have had the pleasure of meeting Colin on a couple of occaisions and found him so warm, so sincere and so very approachable. Nothing wil ever beat sitting in a London recording studio watching him record an album a few years back. To see the man behind the voice that you’ve listened to for so many years sitting within touching distance was an unforgettable experience and I will be sending every kind of well-wishing, thoughts, hopes and prayer for the miracle we so very need. With love.

Toutes mes pensées positive pour vous. Vous avez crée et chanté l’une de mes chansons préférés. Battez vous. On vous aime.

such sad news. Colin was my first “favourite singer” as a teenager. I got my first ever cassette walkman for christmas and the only cassette I played on it for the first 3 months was Black.

Saw Black live at Liverpool Empire

such sad news. Colin was my first “favourite singer” as a teenager. I got my first ever cassette walkman for christmas and the only cassette I played on it for the first 3 months was Black.

Saw Black live at either Liverpool Empire or the Royal Court (cant remember which) in late 80’s and it was a fantastic night.

Got my fingers and everything else crossed hoping for the miracle that Colin needs xxx

Col. saw you which I’ve worked out 49 times in concert need to make the 50 you called me the stalker need u back on stage buddy hope to see you soon good buddy good times xxx

Good heavens, this latest update really is distressing. Colin, do you hear the myriad voices imploring you to get well? We need you. Especially in these troubled times, with so many evil and sad things happening in the world, we need islands of comfort and sanity and hope. You’re such an island to me. I feel more at home in this world knowing that there are people like you out there. We need to hear more of your voice, more of your music and of your take on this curious thing called life. And as I’m looking at the Wonderful Life lyric sheet, handwritten by you, that takes pride of place in my living room, I feel sure you’re still here with us, just taking a pause. It exudes the same strong energy as ever. So come on, don’t give up, keep fighting. You’re eagerly awaited back by so many.
Keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow’s scan and wishing Colin’s family much strength, Katharina

I’m so deeply sorry to hear of Colin’s condition and can only imagine what Camilla is going through. Thoughts and love.

Ce n’est pas possible ce qui arrive… Je me joins à tous les autres pour exprimer mon souhait de recevoir très vite des nouvelles rassurantes.

I hope the miracle occurs. It has to be so. This world needs people like you. It’s too soon, please, hear our voices and stay! All the strenght, positive thoughts and love to you and your family.

You have been a soundtrack to my life since I first heard “Wonderful life” all those years ago. Pure musical genius for decades.

Come on Big Man – pull through for all of us.

Love, light, positive energies and prayers being sent the way of Colin and his family. I go back to the days when Wonderful Life had yet to be a hit. Those first two albums were the soundtrack of my student days in Liverpool, but more than that they were my friends on lonely nights. There’s a sad melancholic beauty to Colin’s music that rings true, gets beyond the surfaces and superficialities of life to its true realities, the personal realities we all know and experience, the ‘little details’ that make for a whole and meaningful life. Beautifully observed and crafted, this music touches the soul.

Colin is getting better and better as a singer and songwriter. Last year’s Blind Faith was wonderful. Listen to the song Beautiful and you’ll agree that Colin is reaching his peak. I dearly hope he pulls through. I remember in the mid-eighties telling everyone to watch this guy, he’s good. He may not have had the string of hit records, by which some measure success, but he has more than redeemed every promise made on those first two albums. There are just so many great songs to his name. Try “Walk on Frozen Water” for just one. “Beautiful”, “Scrapbook of Ghosts”, “Agnes’ Prayer”. And that’s just for starters. A major talent, and a major part of the lives of those who were wise enough to investigate further beyond the great hit records. So good in intimate venues. It’s that kind of music.

So I am, as we all are, wishing, hoping, praying for a miracle.

So very sad to hear that Colin is in such a critical condition. Our thoughts are with his wife, family and friends at this difficult time. Having just become grandparents ourselves, we hope Colin recovers and gets to meet the newest member of the family.
We have been fortunate to see Colin a couple of times in recent years and enjoy his music immensely, thank you so much, we look forward to more of the same from a much overlooked and talented man.
Get well soon Colin, we are thinking of you.

Colin and your family in my thoughts and prayers. I hope you pull through and will be in good shape. Praying for a miracle. You have brought joy to many. I hope you are able to continue. You’re in God’s hands may you be blessed xx

Colin, family and friends,
You are constantly in my thoughts. I am praying that all will go well and that a miracle does happen.
Paula x

Colin, all of our strong, positive thoughts and love are with you and your family at this time. from all your appreciative listeners and fans of your music and works. Keep fighting hard. Harder then you have ever fought.
We are here, all of us fighting with you and praying for you and your family.
Miracles do happen. X

Colin, You can made a miracle with your music, now do it for your health! We love you!
Wishing all the best for you and your family

Sending so much love to Colin and his family. Such an incredibly talented and genuine man. Please get better xxx

Dear Colin,

i am a fan of your music for many many years , i have spend hours listening again and again your music , your voice and words cannot describe how much your music has touched me.I watched you live in Thessaloniki Greece around 1992-1992 in a small gig with 50 people i was standing just in front of you, best gig i ever had !

All i can say is that my heart has gone ”black” since i heard these news.Praying you get well soon…Thanks for making our life more wonderful with your music.Best wishes from Athens.

I just found out about the accident and I am in shock. Get well soon Colin. Sending you all the strength you need from germany. Never forget you are needed and loved!!!!!

Really can’t believe it.., I had the chance to meet him back in the late 80s in Greece where he came for a special appearance. Colin, I’m sure you will be fine. We talked a little, remember? May be more than a little… I remember the fire burning in your eyes… full of life full of spirit full of inspiration. I keep forward on hearing the good news about your health… My prayers are with you and your family!!!

I was deeply saddened to learn of Colin’s accident and pray he’s strong enough to pull through. Miracles DO happen! I will sing “Wonderful Life” tonight in his honour, being one of the greatest songs defining MY life. Get well and all the very best to his family!

So shocked and saddened to hear Colin is in such a critical condition. Having heard the news, I introduced my two youn daughters to his music and rest assured Colin, you have two new fans. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and friends. Please God (or whatever higher being you believe in) you’ll have a speedy and full recovery and you’ll be back bringing your beautiful music and dulcet tones to your loving fans.

I just wanted to add my own few thoughts re the news of Colin’s accident. As a broadcaster here in Scotland I have used music from Colin’s career on many occasions. I had the huge pleasure of interviewing him in an Edinburgh hotel quite some years ago now. I do recall that he was a most engaging, pleasant person who gave me a lot of time and space prior to the show he was in town to do. Via my connections with a particular promotions company I have been able to keep up with his rather excellent material which has been coming out in the last couple of years. His has to be one of the most instantly recognisable voices the UK has produced. A talented writer who has brought much happiness to the fans of quality music. So my thoughts go out to Colin, his nearest and dearest, plus all the colleagues with whom Colin has worked throughout his long career at this difficult time. Thank you for the music Colin.

I made a point of seeing Colin at Splashy Fen a music festival in South Africa and then in a small intimate live musive venue in Melville, Jo’burg – what an experience to see him live!!! The song Wonderful Life is one of those songs that touches ones soul and does not let go because its sends a message of hope and joy which is what living life to the fullest is about. You are in my thoughts and prayers! Wishing you and your family strength and blessings in this difficult time

Any news? My thoughts are with Colin and his family to pull through this. Have been thinking about it for the last few days. Little does one know how much their presence in our lives affects us, how far it reaches and how much it unites. Please fight back, you are much loved. xxx

So very sorry to hear the news today that Colin’s condition is deteriorating. I was convinced a miracle would happen for Colin. This is such sad news. His music will always inspire me. I wish Colin’s family peace and comfort for this hard journey ahead that they will have to face. Thinking of you in Canada. If there’s anything I can do, please get in touch. Love Shelley.

Sad news again. Oh my God. I think of and pray for Colin and his family. All the love from Germany. Great man. All the love…..

I´m just sitting here… staring at this blank box open to my thoughts, and can´t think a single proper thought.
OF COURSE I remember hugging you at your 30-person comeback concert back in London in, like, 2012 maybe, and the kiss you´ve sent via photograph to my wife. Such a kind, great, great, GREAT person – how the f*cking f*ck can some GOD allow YOU to have such a tragedy? You are supposed here to teach my children or even grandchildren one day to hear the golden warmth through your still to be written songs! There is so much left for you to stay, the world is turning more and more grey, and you were always like a rock, some sort of constant, a lighthouse.
And of course I remember the day I bought your second album from the black market in Budapest. The awe with which I opened it and started listening to the first tunes. The shivers.
And of course I remember the endless times when I have been given the honour to listen to any of your songs. On the road, in trains, while travelling, while making love, while leaving or coming somewhere. Alone, in company, at a party or one of your gigs.
So… what the hell can I say to this page, this box, and maybe a few who read this, that wouldn´t be so minute in comparison to the shock and emptiness I feel right now?
OF COURSE I wish that it could be undone, or at least if that´s not possible, then let you recovery fully by a great miracle some gods are allegedly good for.
I wish your family the bless to go through this tragic time with the biggest possible strength and care for each other.
The world needs blokes like you so desperately.

What the f*ck can I say more?!
Come back, please.

A sad miserable Sunday in Southern Sweden. With the latest news shared today, it would be a great thing with subshine tomorrow. Stay well! Ton

I won’t give up hope for a miracle. You are all constantly in my thoughts and I send you all my love. Keep fighting dear Colin.

Hello Colin,

I am heartbroken to read today’s update. I want to keep the hope as long as you are alive, though. I hope you are comfortable and that you are not suffering.

On Friday I popped Are We Having Fun Yet? in my radio to listen to as I drove to work. It had been a while since I listened to that one and it seemed like a fitting way to send good energy your way. I sang along with you to Don’t Take the Silence Too Hard, Swingtime moved me as always, loved Wishing You Were Here and Leaving Song, which ended just as I was pulling in my parking space, had a whole new meaning considering the circumstances. I responded with “you better not” to your last line.

Colin, now that I got in front of the computer I don’t know what to say. I am very upset over this – it is so absurd and unjust. I guess I wanted to tell you that, if the worst comes to pass, you are leaving so much beauty behind, you have touched so many people that, in a way, you will live forever. I hope your loved ones find some consolation in this – that your voice stays with us, that it is so many of us who, even though we did not have the privilege to know you personally, now feel that we are losing a friend because you gave us so much with your music, you helped us to articulate and make sense of our feelings and made our lives so much better.

Apparently it is true that the best leave us way too soon. However, as I said, I am clinging to hope. My heart goes to your loved ones in this awful time.

With Admiration and Respect,

Colin and his family are constantly in my thoughts, sending love and strength to them and all his fans here too. Hard to know what else to say, words just aren’t enough.

Your music has always managed to touch me where needed and at the right moments. I will continue to listen to your music and sincerely hope, you will pull through.

The last update is heartbreaking. I can’t believe the things are going that way.
I feel something is broken inside of me.
I will keep praying and asking the fate for one little miracle. Colin, please wake up. We need you.
You and your music will be a part of me and my life no matter what’s gonna happen.

Thinking of you all at this time. I wrote to Colin after his first or second single, either More than the Sun or Hey Presto back in 1984. Both I played endlessly. I wrote to him encouraging him to tell him what an amazing songwriter he is and he kindly wrote back. That meant so much to me and was thrilled about his later success. I pray for him and all the family this time, very much in my thoughts.

To Colin’s Boys, Wife, and Extended Family and Friends,

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Colin. My heart goes out to each and everyone of you. When we lose someone we love, it seems that time stands still. What moves through us is a silence, a quiet sadness, a longing for one more day, one more word, one more touch. We may not understand why he left, before you were ready to say good-bye, but his life gave you memories too beautiful to forget. When reason fails, hold tight to those memories for comfort, lean on your friends and family for strength. Let yourself cry, knowing that each tear is a note of love rising to the heavens. Death only comes to those who leave no memories; for whose existence was cherished, they will always be alive in the chambers of the heart. As you comprehend this profound loss, I wish you peace to bring you comfort, courage to face the days ahead, and loving memories to forever hold in your hearts. I don’t know how to heal your pain, but I wish I could. Thinking of you all, in this difficult time. All my Love, Shelley, From Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Such a great, gentle man.Another sad day for great music.
Somehow life doesn’t feel so wonderful right now.
Sleep well.

Te voy a amar siempre.

Dear Colin, thank you for the way you touched my heart. I would like to think I’ll keep you forever in my life, ’cause you’re part of it. “… So I sit on the floor with my head in my hands… “.

Today is a very sad day for all of us. We have lost a great songwriter, a positive artist, a friend, a brother. To me Colin was symbolized by one of the most beautiful song ever written. An anthem! An absolute melody! He gave us hope in writing such a positive song, that is “wonderful life”. During my teenage days, it was not always easy to grow up. However, every time I heard Colin singing his most famous song (but there are so many others worth remembering), my day was made. It was happiness after all. And for that, Colin, you will always remain in my mind. Rest in peace!

Спасибо за Ваши удивительные песни. Жизнь прекрасна, Вы спели… Это остается навсегда! Глубокие соболезнования близким.

I am very sorry for your (our) loss…I can not believe I never hear any new Colin’s song…I*ve always tried to have all Colins songs he has ever recorded…I didn*t knew him but I*m sure he was a GOOD man…

May God bless Colin’s soul. May his family, friends and fans always feel his presence. His music lives on. He will always be remembered. My thoughts and prayers for all those close to him.

Colin was my favourite singer when I was about 13 years old. After that, I continued to follow him until the present date. He made so much excellent music, including his last album. So sad that he had to leave us so early. My condolences to his family and all others who were close to him.

There is nothing that compares to Colin’s music: his tender voice, the sound and all the great lyrics, that accompanied my life…. Thank you so much Colin! I am grateful that I had the opportunity to attend some of his concerts: In November 2015 he came to my hometown Munich and we talked to each other for I while. I am unable to believe that this will never happen again. You have deeply touched my heart and my soul. Your feelings and thoughts will forever live on in your songs.

Black were part of the soundtrack to my student days, and it was a time of looking forward to the future with great optimism. I bought the albums as they came along, heard the music and the message become enriched by time and by life. Colin Vearncombe was one of the finest singers and songwriters we have ever seen. Simple as that. And he was a wonderful human being who lived his life with love, kindness, humility and generosity of spirit. He wrote and sang songs of innocence and experience, giving us poignant lyrics and beautiful music which expressed the full range of human emotions: love, regret, loss, separation, heartbreak and love again. A beautiful soul. And irreplaceable. A perfect case.

Dear all,

I only know Colin’s “hit”, but this one song filled a whole universe in my soul. I was 7, maybe 8 when it came out and I have strong memories of it when it was on the air in France. I remember listening to it while playing Amstrad computer games. It was the radio then. It was the technology we had. And this mix of “old new” stuff, the radio, the computer with loading cassettes and this “hit” being the most romantic ballad ever and not something generic, reflected the pace of our lives at the time, that wasnt so brisk with the demanding jobs, or looking for one, and the connected ways of today. It was very NOW, and romantic and nurturring. I feel sad and upset and send my deepest and warm feelings to his fans and family. ST

This is such a blow. I’m still lost for words. And yet I feel like talking about it because returning to business as usual just like that won’t work either. This all seems so brutal and unreal, a bad dream if there ever was one. And yet it isn’t a dream. It was in the news even on the screens in the Düsseldorf underground today.
Although I’ve seen Colin perform live only twice and haven’t spoken to him but once, I too feel like I have lost a friend. A constant in life who was infusing it with a kind of underlying melody ever since I was 12 or 13 years old. He’s always just been there, at times more in the background, at times taking centre stage. Looking out for news from him, looking forward to new songs (in the knowledge that he would actually appreciate feedback and might even respond to it) was just one of the joys of my life. It’ll be a lot bleaker knowing that there are no more news to be expected. The Wonderful Life lyric sheet on my wall that used to make me smile whenever I glanced at it – a reminder of the beauty of life despite all its ambiguities – now seems to say that life is fragile above all.
Colin was the only celebrity I ever dared – or cared – to get in touch with. I guess it was the extraordinary warmth in his voice that just made you feel sure he couldn’t be a bad person and that a peek behind the celebrity facade wouldn’t be disappointing. And it sure wasn’t. He was such an inspiration and yet so very down-to-earth, a kind and funny and approachable man. Now he is gone. What a loss. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. Rest in peace, Colin. You’ll not be forgotten. Through your music, you’ll remain very much alive in our hearts.

I am so sorry for Colin’s family and friends at this sad and awfull time, I am 62 years old and had just recently rediscovered Colin’s talent not just the old stuff but all his music.
The original video to “Wonderfull Life” should stand as testiment to his imence talent, the strange thing is that I was watching the video quite a few times recently not knowing of his accident.
Thinking of you all

Rest in peace .i think he was so emotional and romantic person more than a singer. And i also think he is in heaven now like all good

servant of God.

May you read these words, Colin, wherever you are…

Do you remember this little french guy that sent you words of encouragement, many years ago ? I told you then how I believed that success was a cyclical notion, and that I was persuaded, in the beginning of this new century, that time was the best judge, and that talent was always winning in the end, when fashions fade away ?

And you answered me (!), as a proof of your infinite kindness, and gave a little bit of your time for me (how many artists do that for their fans today, with such generosity and sincerity ?).

Then I gave you some advices to discover Gainsbourg’s work, because you wanted to, and sent you audio cassettes of some of my favourites french singers, as Jean-Louis Murat… You were so opened to culture, to others, always ready to share, to discover… La classe suprême. La marque des plus grands.
You have no idea how much I will miss you. As for Bowie, another giant gone too soon, I choose to keep the best and, if hearing your wonderful, wonderful voice will evidently never be the same now, continue to thrill at the sound of jewels like “Paradise”, “Hey Presto”, “I Can Laugh About It Now”, “You’re A Big Girl Now”, “All We Need Is The Money”, the magnificent “Paradise Lost”, “Too Many Times”, “Listen”, “Fly Up To The Moon”, “This Is Life” (this one particularly sounds so different now…), “Water On Snow”, “Alive”, etc… without forgetting the intemporal “Wonderful Life”, of course.

Continue to thrill, and to cry sometimes… but not for my sorrow about your leaving, but simply for the beauty of your music and your voice, so deep and so sweet.

I will try to.

Because I know that you wouldn’t have appreciated that those tears were only here because you passed away, and only for causing pain and sorrow to me, to us all, just by hearing the sound of your voice… You’d surely prefer to see us all thrilling, and eventually crying, just because of the beauty of your songs, just for the magnificence of your art.

So I will try to, just to please you.

But I can’t tell you with certitude that I will succeed…

Wherever you are, I want to be there too in my time of leaving.
Because “Paradise’s not Lost”.

Many thoughts & kisses to Camilla & the boys (your husband & father wasn’t just a great artist, but also a great man).

That’s just goodbye, not farewell, genius.
