Book of Celebration

We’re aware that some people couldn’t make it to the memorial service in Liverpool. We set up this online book of celebration to give anyone a chance to share their memories of Colin and his music, along with any messages for the family.

We have now closed the Book of Celebration to new entries but all previous entries remain below to view.

589 entries.

I was lucky enough to meet Colin at his concerts on several occasions. My memories are of a very likeable guy who was happy to engage with his fans. His voice is like velvet and his rendition of Moonriver, amongst others, gives me goosebumps. He loved his Guinness and I will raise a glass tomorrow night in memory of a special guy. Sadly missed and never ton be forgotten x

Music will never be the same for me. Each new album by Colin broadened my musical horizon. I hope that I find a new way to grow. Best wishes to those close to him.

Colin became a sountrack to people's live even in far flung places like New Zealand. Thought's with family. Colin's beautiful creations live on.

still devastated by the loss! Your music was soundtrack of my life in the late 80's, lifted me up through the 90's and was a pleasure up to the fantastic last album. Only two times I had the privilege of seeing you live in Cologne - both times were magic.
The first time was in December 1993, shortly after Frank Zappa had died and you dedicated Wonderful Life to him this night...I sang this very song in your rememberance quite often over the last weeks. RIP, my thoughts are with your family and friends

I saw you last year at Stamford Bridge and enjoyed the show very much. You were one of the must under estimated song writers/performers of the last 30 years. Thank you.

My love and thoughts are with Colin's family. I now know what a great talent we have lost too late. Colin has left us a legacy, his music, poems and art for which I am truly grateful. I cannot travel to Liverpool even though I so want to, but will be thinking of all his family and friends on the 19th Feb. I lost my mum 24 years ago today. You can over as a smashing chap with a wonderful sense of humour. Make lovely music in heaven Colin. XXXXXX

Whenever I hear Wonderful Life, or any songs from it, I'm transported back to my love-angst teen years. They were the best, they were the worst. Forever in memory. RIP Black.

From my country, I will remember this man as a great spirit and a great performer. I am with you in this painful period of time

You were truly That Man to me - the one where you first hear a song and stop and say "What was that? Who was that?!" It was the very first release of Wonderful Life as the soundtrack to a montage on the BBC Youth TV show 'No Limits' in 1986. I've followed, and listened ever since and so it's hard to think we now have a 30 year limit on your genius.
"Only dreams can last forever. So don't turn around, 'cos that's Paradise Lost."
Thank you Colin.

I can't make it overseas to attend but i wish i could, i'm close to the family in spirit, Colin will always live in the hearts and minds of everybody who met him and everybody who loves his music. I feel like i've lost a friend, we never met but thirty years of his music in my ears is like a tattoo in my soul, forever in the ether my friend.

Colin's music has meant so much to me from the 80s right up to the current day. In particular the third album, Black, was a constant companion to me during a memorable year in 1993. From The Royal Albert Hall to Ronnie Scott's I have enjoyed the live performances.

I still can't believe he's gone but the music will last forever.

You was the music of my life, my early years, my oldest years. Rest in peace, good old friend.

But remember, we are not for what we do here, but what we left here. You had lefted a lot of god music, so... you'll not be forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Colin's friends and family. Rest in peace, Colin. Even after all these years "Wonderful Life" still transports me to a day and memory...driving, sunshine, that brilliant song on the radio and my wife and first-born baby daughter in the car with me. Thoughts and prayers are with family and friends. If great songs live forever, Colin achieved immortality.
