‘Teenage Wall’ blatantly influenced by Steve Earle who I still rate as one of the best storytellers in song. It only got the twist it needed (I’d love to be a rock and roll singer but the cap never quite fits) when Calum retuned his electric 12string to something a bit odd and we got what sounded like a visit from the ghost of Jimmy Page!
‘Same Mistake Twice’ I wrote (again with William Topley if memory serves) as an excuse to hear Calum go over the top on guitar………the lyric largely reduced to series of posers that remain unanswered……..except by violently loud guitar. That’s the thing about repeated mistakes; if we don’t listen we’re doomed to repeat them (how can you listen when you’re being sonically bombarded!).
Running gags like these might explain my interest in crosswords…….i really don’t expect anyone else to care……this is strictly for the anoraks (of whom i am proudly one!)
