Compilations
As with any chart act of the 80s, there is a selection of compilations available. Now that the second and third albums ‘Comedy’ and ‘Black’ have been deleted, these are the best way to obtain many of the songs from those albums in their original incarnations.
‘Black:The Collection’ is a CD of 18 tracks, including eight taken from ‘Comedy’ but only two taken from ‘Black’. The remainder comprises ‘Wonderful life’ tracks, including single of the same name and the singles ‘Paradise’, ‘Sweetest smile’ and ‘Everything is coming up roses’. Failing to include the singles from the deleted third album while replicating so much of the in-print ‘Wonderful life’ makes this an odd selection by A&M.
‘Black: The master series’ (apparently out of print) was a more interesting compilation, including the b-sides ‘Every waking hour’, ‘You are the one’, and ‘You lift me up’ (later re-recorded for ‘Water on snow’). This was a more representative collection with four tracks from the third album ‘Black’, including the singles ‘Feel like change’ and ‘Fly up to the moon’. This album was re-released by A&M as ‘Black: Millennium Edition’ with new artwork, but an identical running order. It might yet be released again..?
